Young Art Leaders
Young Art Leaders are paid to work collaboratively
to develop a community art project that addresses a community need or issue. They discuss and explore different approaches to leadership, and decide collaboratively what community issue to focus on.
The 2021 cohort created a scavenger hunt to raise awareness of issues within our local food systems. They installed 3 large portable murals and 5 painted boxes in separate places around Shelburne Falls.

Each box focused on different issues with an emphasis on food security and food sovereignty. Each contained a handmade stamp, scavenger hunt pass books, and booklets with information and resources to help with food access.

The 2022 cohort focused on climate change and our region’s natural environment.

They created a collection of zines for local libraries.
The Young Art Leaders program is funded in part by:

The New England Grassroots Fund,
The Massachusetts Cultural Council,
and The Art Angels.
